Vintage Card Elements

I made these cards weeks (months?) ago and just found them on my camera.  They were both made from vintage cards a friend gave me. I use a lot of antique postcards (early 1900s), but these are from more like the 1960s, which I guess is vintage now.

I fancy cut around the right edge of the picture and left the left edge squared, added some background paper and border (CTMH retired stash), and the three little stars. Done.

The centers of these cards--the little velum squares with the stork paper element on top are little gift tags from baby gifts. The originals were appropriate for a boy or girl, but I added pink paper on one and blue on the other to make both girl and boy cards. I attached the velum with brads and on one a safety pin (I don't recommend this--that's why it's only on the one). The brown square is cardstock. I used a dark color so the light colors on the velum would be more visible. The background papers, bird, and banner are from a Collage Art Stack from DCWV

Dig in your drawers and closets for your old cards and recycle them into something special!

Ruby Rainbow Card

This anytime card is definitely not everyone's taste, because it's so busy, but I like the artsy feel of it. It will be for sale, along with many of my cards, in Colfax, Iowa, at Spring City Vintage. Whether or not shoppers looking for vintage items will be interested in this type of card is questionable, but I make what I feel like at the time, so we'll see.

 

I started out with a Dyan Reaveley style background:

 

I used her color-blocking style I learned at her workshop at Memory Bound in Ankeny, Iowa. I used Dylusions paints by Rangers in the colors of Black Marble, Crushed Grape, Vibrant Turquoise, and Fresh Lime. All the stencils were Dylusions as well. I also edged the paper in Black Marble.

 

Then I doodled over the background:

 

 

I mostly used a white pen, but I also used Dylusions Crushed Grape paint pen. The doodling was done purposely sloppy.

 

Then using the Ruby Rainbow stamps, also by Dylusions, I stamped out my images on to some old dictionary pages.

 

 

I colored the images partly with my Dylusions pens and partly with my Copic markers.

 

 

I cut the images out and glued them on my page. I went around the whole image with a wide black line to keep it from getting lost in the busy background.  I added "remember to take risks" with Tim Holt'z idea-ology Big Chat words, used my white marker to highlight the image and words, and then glued it to my card.

Flying Heart Card

A Doodled and Painted Card

This card would work for a wedding, a baby, an engagement, Valentine's Day, etc. I left the inside blank so the sender can send it for whatever occasion they choose.

I started out by making a background using Dylusions paints and a Dylusions stencil. I believe the paint colors were Funky Fuchsia, Cherry Pie, and Pomegranate Seed. The stencil is a abstract brick design.  After the paint dried completely, I used a white pen to doodle a border. 

 

Then I cut a small piece of paper, rounded the corners and doodled a flying heart inside a frame, inspired by Joanne Sharpe's Doodle Art and Lettering book.  I water colored the heart doodle.

And that's it!  This card will be heading for sale at Spring City Vintage in Colfax, Iowa.

 

 

Vintage Easter Cards

Happy Easter!

Here are a few Easter cards I made for sale at Spring City Vintage in Colfax. Each was made from a postcard from the early 1900s, and I added some B&T papers and embellishments.  I'm so glad spring is here!

I went to the grocery store on the morning of December 26, and saw the stockers changing the candy shelves from Christmas candy to Valentine's candy!

 

Here's a Valentine I made for sale at Colfax's Spring City Vintage to put you in the mood for Valentine crafting:

The background bricks and tree are from Wendy Vecchi's Stamper's Anonymous line, as is the brown "splatter" on the tag background. I distressed all edges with Tim Holtz's Ranger Distress Ink (Vintage Photo). The little hearts within the bricks are hand drawn with a Copic marker.  The cute little couple ephemera is an old Valentine from the stash my friend Jane gave me from her own childhood.

 

 



Spring City Vintage Mother's Day Cards

Some more Mother's Day cards for sale this weekend at Spring City Vintage in Colfax. The outer two cards have rose images from vintage postcards. The center card is made with a sprayed background with daffodils stamped in the foreground.

Easter Cards from Antique Postcards

A couple last cards I'll have for sale at Spring City Vintage in Colfax this Saturday.  Two Easter cards made with pieces from antique postcards. Surprisingly, Easter used to be a big holiday for sending cards. Now, not so much. We'll see if I have any interested buyers.

Collage Card from Antique Postcards

Another card pieced together from antique postcards. This time I used the back of a card so you could see the postmark--1911!!! I added some pieced cut from other postcards and a Happy Birthday sentiment also from an old postcard. This is another card I'll be putting up for sale at Spring City Vintage in Colfax, which is open this Saturday, March 14.

I made a few more cards to sell in Spring City Vintage in Colfax from antique postcards and other ephemera.  Here's a closer look:

I scanned this old snapshot into my computer and printed it larger for the card. It really scanned well. I'm sure I'll be using this "hula girl" often.

I scanned and enlarged this photo too, but it came from an antique postcard. It makes a great friendship card.

This might be my favorite of the bunch. The postcard in the background's postmark shows up really well, and I like the scene in the picture in the foreground--also from an antique postcard.

I like the monochromatic theme of this one.

Vintage Valentines

We're expecting some significant snow in Iowa tonight and tomorrow, so I'm declaring it a creative weekend.  First up, I needed to make some Valentines and cards for a new shop I'm selling in: Spring City Vintage in Colfax.  It's an occasional store, meaning it's only open one Saturday per month and by appointment.  We have more and more of these types of shops opening up.  It keeps overhead low for a specialty shop, and customers really pour in on those days the stores are open.  Anyway, Spring City Vintage's date this month happens to coincide with Valentine's Day, so I made some vintage Valentines:

 

And some close-up shots.  The Valentines are from around 1963 and belonged to a friend of mine.
