Journaling our 2019 Family Trip to Disney World

More of our family's trip and journal:

These fun, eclectic pages please me for unknown reasons. Maybe it's the cute picture of Finn on the bottom right with the journaling that his favorite park was "All of them" or maybe it's Shae asleep on the ottoman at the top of the left page.  The left page's view finder area, flips up:

It reveals more random pictures.

The abstract Mickey Mouse on the right side is another postcard we received from Disney before the trip. This time I completely covered the back with B&T paper.

Both of these pages are pictures from Disney buses.

Of course, we had to spend some time at the resort pools:

Usually by the time we took a break from the parks, we were all pretty tired, but we got to the pools a few times, and the kids loved it. The chipboard embellishments are from Carta Bella "Summer Splash."

The next page is all from Animal Kingdom.

No fancy stuff on this page either--only one little top-fold journaling spot at the bottom left. Otherwise just photos and journaling.

We're not foodies by any means, so we didn't want to spend a lot of time and money for restaurant experiences. We did go to the Sci Fi Theater for lunch one day. We'd been there years ago and liked it. Now, I don't recommend it. It was so dark we couldn't see our food at all. The kids' favorite part was the light-up cups they received with their milkshakes. The sparkly paper on the right is a pocket:

A couple more pictures (front and back) and one of the kid's "driver's license" is tucked in the pocket.

We were very excited for the next area:

Galaxy's Edge (the Star Wars area of Hollywood Studios) opened up about a week before our trip. It was crowded, but not too bad. The newest ride, "Rise of the Resistance," wasn't open yet, and we were luck to get only about a 45-minute wait for "Smuggler's Run." The left side is just pictures from the area and the ride, and the right is the area's park guide. It's affixed to the back of one of the postcards Disney sent us.  Here's the guide unfolded:

Darth Vader is on the front of the postcard. I added a little star charm on a string to the postcard

The top right photo and the journaling is about Finn building his droid.

The next "busy" pages are all Toy Story Land and Toy Story characters:

And, there's a little journaling card on the bottom right behind the monkeys. 

The next page has the Disney photo from Pirates of the Caribbean:

The right side is a half page, cut with a waved edge using the Dylusions ruler as a guide.  It's easier to see from the other side:

The right Pooh-themed page has a band with a tag:

Shae was the PERFECT age for the Pooh-themed areas and loved meeting the 100-acre wood characters.

The next pages are darker, with pictures from the Tower of Terror and the Haunted Mansion.

I made the background with white and grey paint and added the argyle decisions with a stamp.

Back to colorful on the next pages:

My grandkids LOVE rainbows, so the pics are all rainbow related. The Mickey buttons are from my stash. The striped B&T paper makes a great place to add journaling.

The next page in my junk journal is a colorful bunch of miscellaneous pics:

I forgot to take a picture, but there's a little bookmark-size tag that comes out of the polka dot pocket on the right side.  I made the background with paint and used the negative of a punch to make the Mickeys.

The next few pages all contain pics from Magic Kingdom--mostly princesses.

There's a little tuck spot at the bottom left with a picture of our "little princess" with a face full of chocolate ice cream.  The castle on the right is a post card Disney sent us before the trip. It makes a nice extra page, and I have a couple more in this journal. All the extra pages have been affixed with washi tape hinges, front and back.

After you turn the page, you can see the markings on the back of the postcard. I put a pocket on it for a long tag.

And that tag has yet another pocket with a slimmer tag on it.

The next two pages are from our resort, Art of Animation. It had a whole Cars themed area.

These papers are from Sandy Lion.  There's a pocket to the left.

It has this pull-out. And, on the back...

1. ...it looks like this.  I just discovered I could add another picture or embellishment here!

The next layouts have Finding Nemo on the left and

some miscellaneous snapshots on the right.

The right side has a pocket and tag on the bottom. At the top, the area with the picture from the bus actually folds right and there are more pictures and a pocket with a tag under there. 

The next two pages are some of my favorites.

These are just all fun pictures from around the parks and resort. I stamped the teacups on the right side.

The left side opens up...

...and opens up more to a four-panel colorful fold-out.

These are the three panels on the back of the fold-out. The fourth panel is glued to the original page. Most of the papers on these pages are from Echo Park.

Journaling our 2019 Family Trip to Disney World

The next pages are of our hotel & suite and our Magic Band (your ticket/room key/payment option at Disney World).

The left side has a horizontal band with two tags behind it.

I fastened both tags together with a ribbon so they make a little booklet.  All of the pictures on the fronts and backs are of our suite. I like using black with white ink for a little different contrast. 

The right of the page is a pocket that holds a resort map and one of our Magic Bands.

I used a LOT of different materials for this junk journal, including some pieces that are probably pushing 20 years old. My very first try at scrapbooking was a Disney Vacation album, and I probably haven't thrown any extras away. This page has some newer paper from Echo Park, but that's all I'm sure of.

Besides old and new papercrafting materials, I including lots of bits and pieces of Disney ephemera we either picked up on the trip at the parks or in our room, along with a lot of pieces that were mailed to us from Disney before our trip: ads, instructions, itineraries, etc.

These two pages are made with Echo Park papers. The left side is a large pocket (cropped to close to see very well in the photo), and the right is a shallow pocket with two small tags.

Journaling Our 2019 Family Trip to Disney World

Our biggest trip last year was a Disney World vacation with Jess and her family.  I think my favorite projects right now are travel junk journals. You can see my Hawaii junk journal and family beach trip junk journal by clicking on the links.

I usually start these journals way in advance of my trip while I'm excited about going. Then we we go, I pack along some colored pens and my HP Sprocket mini printer. I try to add quotes, memories, and pictures while we're on vacation, usually on the plane or in the hotel at night before bed or early in the morning before everyone else is up and ready for the day.  That way, I have a lot of memories I might have forgotten (especially funny stuff the kids say) and finishing the book when I get home isn't so daunting.  

I used the Dylusions small journal (the blank original one) and painted the cover with Dylusions paints (Postbox Red, Black Marble, & White Linen), using some Dylusions small stencils. T added some little highlights on the black circles with a white pen--and outlined three to make a Mickey.  Then I wrote a title and date with black ink. 

                             

I ran a thick red & white striped piece of baker's twine around the spine and tied it in a knot. Then I added some black tulle and three charms--a star, airplane, and teacup--with black ribbon.

I always like my junk journals chunky and messy, with lots of bits and pieces sticking out from the edges, as you can see from the pictures to the left and above.

I left the inside of the cover plain. All the Dylusions journals have a nice pocket on the inside cover so you can store souvenirs to glue down later or odds and ends that didn't make it in the journal. I really like the half Mickey with all the words as a first page, so I left that as is.

The first pages are dedicated to the flights there. Finn  and Shae had never flown before, so it was exciting for them and a first for us flying with a then four year old and a two year old.

Most of it is stickers I've had in my stash with a bit of journaling and one of our ticket stubs.

The next pages were our arrival at Disney World. I included some luggage tags and a few pics from the Magical Express ride and the Art of Animation resort. On the right side, I added a pocket that holds six thin journaling slips. 

I wrote individual memories from the trip there on the slips. 

Each slip has a white punched Mickey on it. The white-on-white makes it almost look embossed.

The last page for this post shows a pretty boring page, but it's one we like to refer to. On the left side was our basic plan for each day. We didn't make a lot of Fast Pass or dining reservations, but we had a few. And there was one character we wanted to see on a certain day. We knew our plans would change when we got there. On the right side are notes about what parks and activities we actually did on each day. It's fun to look back at, and it helps figure out what day particular pictures were taken too.

I drew all the Mickeys with a marker, and I wish I would have taken more time. A lot of them look like bunnies!
