 More Pics from Finn & Shae's First Airplane Ride

Shae and Finn were really good on the flights, even the longer ones. They probably enjoyed the snacks the most.

I created my own background paper with blue card stock and a cloud stencil.

I stamped each page a little differently.

Again, I had too many pictures for my layout, so I added a photo insert that held six more pictures from the flights.

Flying to Disney Layout

Back to the First Day of Vacation

I can see the end of my Disney scrapbook! Now I'm finishing up with all the odds and ends. This layout has lots of airport photos, both from Des Moines and Atlanta.

On the right side you can see an 8x12 added flip flap. Unlike the other photo-insert pages I've used, this one isn't divided into 4x6 photo slots. It's more like a mini page to decorate.

This is the page as it will appear in my book with the insert turned.

I used retired CTMH papers and cut out the title and Des Moines airport code with my Cricut.

This page is the same, only with the Atlanta airport code and pics from the Atlanta airport.

Disney Transportation

 "Kings of the Bus"

If you stay on Disney property, you become very familiar with Disney transportation, especially the bus. We tended to take a lot of bus pictures--waiting for the bus, happy on the bus to be going somewhere fun, or dead tired on the bus on the way back to our suite. 

I used a mixture of Best of Heidi Swapp papers and Echo Parks Magical Adventure elements, plus Mickey punches and black Nuvo Crystal drops. "King of the Bus" is the term we used when sitting on the very back bench seat that sits up higher than everyone else. It's also one of the worst seats because it sits over the engine and is hot.

The strips that mimic roads are just a chevron paper cut into strips. The picture of the bus at the top was found on the Internet. I love the picture of the kids hanging on the fence anxiously waiting our bus.

Millennium Falcon Smuggler's Run

 Another Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Layout

This layout is from the Millennium Falcon ride. They're just a little different, but the two pages are mostly the same papers from CTMH with added gold metallic paper to mimic the inside of the Millennium Falcon cockpit.

I found the sign in the upper left online. Note the time I took on the two pictures on the right to wait until most of the people were out of the way.

I added a lot of Nuvo Crystal drops to look like stars. I (obviously) handwrote the journaling with a gold metallic marker.

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Layout

 Fun for all "four" of us!

This layout makes me laugh. Neal, Jess, & I rode the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Disney Studios, and a guy from the single rider line joined us and sat by me. I really didn't want him in the picture, so I cut out a picture of Tom's face and put it over that guy's face.  Just to make it more ridiculous I used the happiest picture I could find, scaled it too big, and popped it up with dimensional adhesive. The other photo on the page is from our Photo Pass disc.

(And the t-shirt "Tom" has on is a Hard Rock t-shirt. LOL!)

Batuu Layout

 Visiting the Land of Star Wars

The Star Wars area in Disney Studios is one of Disney World's newest themed areas, and it was a must-see for us--well most of us.

This layout is all cardstock. I used colors that went with the theming. "Batuu" was cut out with my Cricut, and I made the little squares (kind of like circuit boards?) just by cutting squares and adding random silver Nuvo Crystal Dots (silver lining). I also added the Nuvo Crystal Dots to the letters. Lastly, I had some old metal embellishments I added to two corners of the photos.

This page is Finn & Neal building a remote control BB-8, something special they signed up to do. I used a thick white paint pen on black cardstock for the title. The BB-8 came from my local scrapbook store, Memory Bound.  Otherwise, this page is similar to the left-hand page.

Sci-Fi Theater at Disney Studios

 A Retro Layout

The Sci-Fi Theater is an indoor drive-in theater in Disney Studios. It really seems like a drive-in when you're in it. We've enjoyed it before, but this time our table was pretty dark, and I have this weird thing about having to see the food I'm eating. This is especially true in a restaurant--I want to know if there's a foreign object in my food.

I always like pink, light blue or teal, and black for retro layouts and cards. I had some old papers in my CTMH stash that fit the theme of the restaurant perfectly.

I think the paper was called Road Trip, but I'm not sure about that. The bottom picture is a Disney stock photo from our Photo Pass package.

Dinosaur Layout

NOT Finn's Favorite Ride

Dinosaur was just too dark and too loud for Finn. The papers I used are from CTMH. In the Disney ride photo, I enlarged the part that had Jess holding her hand over Finn's eyes and stuck it with dimensional adhesive right over the same smaller photo, because that really tells the whole story.

Alien Swirling Saucers

A Very Handmade Layout

(Caution: crooked photo again) This one-page layout started with a purple piece of cardstock and a black piece of cardstock cut shorter all around. I then cut out the aliens freehand at the bottom (and it shows). I used circle punches for the eyes and antenna. Then I outlined the aliens with Nuvo drops. I handwrote the title. cut out the Buzz Lightyear picture from Sandy Lion paper, and added the sticker "The Claw" across the top. The two orange rectangles are just for a little color balance. I added random silver Nuvo drops randomly on the black background to look like space.

I think it turned out okaaaay. My daughter pointed out that ears on the aliens would have helped--oops!

Happiest Place on Earth

Disney Studios One-Page Layout

Walt Disney World IS the "happiest place on earth," and I wanted a one-page layout with our family photo taken by the Disney cast member photographer. Some pages, especially a good picture you want to print larger (this is 5x7) than most of the pictures in your layouts. I'm positive I lifted the basic layout for this page from somewhere, but now I can't find it anywhere. I assume it was from a Pinterest post. (Edit: YES, it was a Pinterest post, but I can't find the original artist's name. To see the post I copied, go HERE.)

The papers I used are all Echo Park's "Magic Adventure" series. I made the tags myself, The Mickey silhouettes are punches, and "happiest" was cut on my Cricut. I used my vintage typewriter to add "place on earth" in the little rectangle.

This zoomed-in photo shows that I used faux stitching around the edge of the white paper to make it look like it's sewn to the black base cs. To do this technique, just poke little holes with a piercing tool where you want your "seam," and then connect every other hole to the hole next to it with a fine-point marker. The indentations really make it look stitched.

"Wish You Were Here" Disney World Layout

12 x 12 Disney World Scrapbook Layout

Every scrapbooker knows Disney trips are one of the most fun subjects to scrap.  I've already finished more pages from our Disney trip than I have from last year's beach trip, and I LOVE the beach.

This layout is busy, busy, busy. The pictures of Tom & me and Jess & Neal are from Magic Kingdom (back by the Jungle Cruise, close to Aladdin's Magic Carpet ride).

I took this picture by sitting it in front of a framed picture on an easel, so note the black frame and black easel base isn't part of the page.

Almost everything in this layout is from Echo Park, with the exception of some Mickey silhouettes and some black "Just the Edge" from Bazzill from many years ago. I started with a similar pattern I saw on Pinterest, with lots of "clutter" on each side and a place for pictures down the middle. I took that idea and went crazy with the outsides. Some of the Echo Park items on the sides are stickers and some are cut from from 12x12 papers.

Many more layouts are on the way, along with the last couple posts of my Disney Junk Journal. If you're a Disney fan, you're in the right spot. And, I'll try to get some Valentines posted soon as well.

Beach Vacation Junk Journal

Memories and more Memories

We rented a van and took Jess and Neal and the grand kids to the Gulf Coast early last fall. We had an old-fashioned family road trip with messes, crying, car games, naps, good food, bad food, hotels, fights, beach days, shopping, walks (runs in the rain), sightseeing, laughs, smiles, and lots and lots of memories. Oh, and a hurricane named Gordon that took away some beach time, but gave us a couple fire alarms and quite an adventure.

I made this junk journal before, during, and after our trip. I just finished it today (the day I wrote this, not the day I posted it). It might get some more doodling added, but it could be done, so I'm classifying it as a "done" project.  Here are a few pictures of the finished book.

Look how thick and chunky this journal is!!! I love a chunky journal. I used the small Dylusions journal and the outside is made with Tim Holtz's Distress Oxide inks, splattered with water.  

I also love, love, love when ribbons an tags, an other "stuff" sticks out from the edges of  the journal. I added lots of ribbons and tags that would go behind the confines of the book. There's a sand castle charm, and the light blue rubber thing is the bracelet from a hotel we were supposed to wear to use the hotel's amenities.

I'm only sharing a few pages, but this is truly a junk journal. I followed no rules and used so many types of papers and embellishments. I even used four different types of photos. (1) regular prints from my digital SLR printed on my home photo printer; (2) phone pics from my Pixel XL printed on my home photo printer; (3) Fuji Instamax photos from my Fuji Instamax Mini automatic camera; and (4) phone pics from my Pixel XL printed on my new HP Sprocket 2nd  Edition. I intend to do a blog post on my Sprocket soon. 

So many fun memories. It was Finn and Shae's first time at the beach, and they loved it!

I can't begin to name all of the products I used. Those palm tree stickers are OLD. I have a painted inked background here with Dylusions, some misc. B&T papers for pockets, and some newer chipboard stickers. 

Junk journals are a great way to use up miscellaneous items in your stash of products and a great way to be creative. There are no rules. We have another big vacation coming up next September, and I'm already looking forward to starting my journal!

Family Vacation Layout No. 2

Wisconsin Dells

This is the second in a series of layouts, to see the first layout, click here: Layout One 

 

This second layout from our Dells vacation is about where we stayed, The Wilderness Resort. Like the first layout, I used papers and embellishments from the CTMH "Jack" workshop on the go.

I doodled the title. I'm super into doodling lately, and you'll see it in a lot of my projects going forward.  The bears were lighter in color than I wanted, so I used a Copic marker to darken them both. You can also see I doodled around the bears and tree & star stickers, and added some extra lines, dots, and scribbles.  The small typewriter-like sayings are from Tim Holtz's idea-ology collection called "Small Talk."

I feel bad Shae's beautiful face has a glare on it, so here's a close up of her--so cute.

 

Second Page:

I used some more sticker embellishments from "Jack" and added more doodling. Again, I darkened some of the stickers with my Copic marker. Whenever something is messy or we argue, or just to be stupid, we refer to our family as the Gallaghers (from the Showtime show "Shameless"), so that's why it says that.

Family Vacation Layout

Wisconsin Dells

I actually finished the layouts for our family vacation to the Wisconsin Dells. This is the second year in a row we've driven to the Dells, and I think last year's trip has maybe one layout done, so don't be too impressed.  My last post was also a Wisconsin Dells vacation page, but it was solely for Shae's baby book because it was her first vacation. (Poor Shae--her baby book is so empty. That's also on my to-do list: more layouts for Shae's book.)

Here's the first layout for the trip. I like to start like sections of layouts with a one-page layout, kind of a title page for either the whole scrapbook if it's a large number of layouts or if it's a section of layouts within a book of various layouts, then it signals the beginning of a new section.

 

The Dells is approximately 5 hours away from where we live in Iowa, so we road trip there. I know not everyone does, but I love a road trip. We always have some great laughs and memories from the road. The top left photo is a selfie of us in our rented minivan. Shae isn't visible because she's in a rear-facing car seat in the way back. The other pics are Shae in her "Vacay All Day" shirt and Finn in his vacation shirt that we bought him in Hawaii last year. His quote (on the page) cracks me up: "This is my vacation shirt. It's really orange."

 

Everything but the title is from CTMH's "|Jack" workshop on the go. It includes coordinated papers and embellishments.  The title is a die cut I picked up at my LSS, Memory Bound in Ankeny, Iowa.  I wrote the dates of the vacation with a white uni-ball pen.

Key West Layouts (post 3)

I used an 8x10 photo for this layout from our Key West trip. It shows the whole gang who went, aka our Parrothead (fans of Jimmy Buffett and everything beach) friends.

 

I used CTMH's Hopscotch paper pack for the background with mats of CTMH's Smoothie and Champagne cs. "Parrotheads" is stamped with CTMH discontinued stamp set Posterboard, which is probably my all-time favorite for layout titles. I stamped directly on a B&T paper from the Hopscotch pack, so the letters are patterned, but the thick outlines of the letters are easy to cut out. I added a few miscellaneous flowers and embellishments and some words of coordinating zip strips.

This layout makes me smile. It was a great long weekend with some of my best friends, and lots of memories were made--all good, some funny, and some hilarious.

Key West Scrapbooking

This is one of those layouts that looks so much better in person, that I almost didn't post it. Picture the black dots a little muted and everything looking, well, just better.

 

We went to Key West in December with ten of our best friends, and I'm almost done with ALL the pages. I'll post them all one by one. This one is probably the best pic of Tom and me during the trip. It's not at the beach, but it does overlook water and looks tropical.

 

 

I saw a mini book where someone had used light blue and black for beach pictures and loved it. Little did I know it wouldn't photograph well for me. :( 

 

I started out by making my own background paper with white cs:

 

Then I selected all the papers I wanted to use. I used scraps for everything! It really made me feel very resourceful.

Everything was blue-tinted, with a little bit of peachy pink to match my shirt. (More photo issues: the paper that looks green and grey is actually a very beachy blue and light green.)

 

Then I started cutting paper. I knew the general layout I would use. I've used it before, and I think it's common enough I don't need to give credit to anyone for the pattern. I see the horizontal strips with thinner vertical strips a lot. I don't spend a lot of time measuring. I just eye it and cut.

I tore the edge of the biggest piece for a beachy/casual feel. Most of the paper is distressed with black ink (hard to see) and I matted the photo and the paper directly under it in white for definition.

 

I used dimensional adhesive on the photo then gathered up all my mismatched embellishments that matched either in color and theme. CTMH users will recognize some very old embellishments. I even added a rub-on heart and an old acrylic tag.

 

Here's the finished piece again:

In person, it came out great! I go back and forth with the scrapbooking style of one photo per page or multiple photos. One per page is more artsy, but when you have a lot of pictures, it's just too many pages to do, so I save it for photos I really like.

Margaritaville Beach Hotel Layout

We had an amazing time at the Margaritaville Beach Hotel at Pensacola Beach, so I did a layout on the hotel itself.  The colors I chose go well with the sunset, the water, and even my shirt.  :) 

 

I used papers from CTMH's "Dream Pop" special kit and CTMH's "Footloose" paper pack.

 

Left page:

 

If you click on this picture of the left page, you can see it better.  The letters in "Margaritaville Beach Hotel" are from CTMH's "Keyboard" stamp set--a new favorite.  I stamped them with Lagoon ink to match the water-like paper from the "Footloose" papers.

 

 

The "Paradise" stamp is also in Lagoon ink and is from the "Footloose" WOTG stamp set.  Both pictures of Tom and me and Jess and Neal were taken from the balcony of our rooms.  The upper left picture is of our room.  What a view!  The bottom middle pic is Neal looking out the balcony window.  The bottom right picture is Jess looking out the hotel lobby window.  Everywhere you went, the view was spectacular!  Besides the papers, I added colorful paper flowers and a little bling.  Very quick and easy, but I love the colorful, summery, tropical feel of the layout.  It makes me want to go back!

We've been traveling again!  This time we drove to Pensacola Beach, Florida.  I love this classic sign and can't wait to scrapbook it.

We stayed at the Margaritaville Beach Hotel, where my toenails matched my surroundings.  CTMH's new Seaside B&T papers are going to coordinate great with these vacation pages.

We also spent some time in the Gulf Island National Park near Biloxi, Mississippi:
