"Cozy Cone Motel" Pool

Inside Disney World, inside the Art of Animation Resort, inside Radiator Springs, sits the imaginary Cozy Cone Motel and its pool. The cabanas are extra-large traffic cones, and it's a quieter, small pool than the Big Blue Pool.

Keeping with the "motel" style, I used Echo Park's "Summer Splash" vintage-themed papers.

I added some white and blue paper strips around the photos to highlight them.

I glued down the wash line of swim wear, but I used dimensional adhesive along the longer items, so it looks more like the items are blowing in the breeze.  The title is done with Thickers.

I like all the motel ads in the Summer Splash papers. They fit pefectly with the Cozy Cone sign. I added a few Nuvo drops and journaled in two different colors for a little interest.

Finn Ready to Swim

Buzz Light Year in Radiator Springs

I love this picture of Finn in his Buzz Light Year swim trunks, rash guard, & sunglasses.  The papers I used were all from Echo Park's "Summer Splash" series, except for the journaling spot, which was from an unknown Disney set. This was taken in the Radiator Springs area of our resort.

I used different scraps 1" wide on the side. Super easy layout that I did zero planning beforehand.

Minnie Mouse

Shae Showing Her Love of the Characters

Shae loved meeting Minnie (and Mickey) so much. She even chose to have a Minnie-themed birthday party a few months later when she was home. 

Mickey and Minnie were in their birthday clothing so I chose a paper to match that. I had the sticker of Minnie on a carousel in my stash of Disney stuff from years ago. These pink and blue papers are from a large paper stack by Sandy Lion.  I used papers from a different Disney pack on the Radiator Springs layout a couple days ago. This pack is more girl themed and includes princesses.

Here's a picture of the two packs. The papers aren't the best quality, but they offer a lot of different Disney papers at a pretty low cost. I cut some up for embellishments. Some of theme are themed for Disney things I've never heard of from Disney Jr.

(Aside: I hate gender themed products!!! Why couldn't these packs be combined for everyone?!)

The heart is a punch, and the "photo op" ticket is a stamp I raised with dimensional adhesive, and I added Nuvo drops for an accent:

I added Stickles to the polka dots on Minnie's bow:

I also added several flower embellishments that almost match the paper, just to give it some more dimension. Lastly, I added some black buttons for flower centers and sequins from my stash.

Lion King Layout

"Our Area" of Art of Animation

Every day when we walked back and forth to our room from the bus stop, the restaurant, the pool, etc., we walked through theming from Lion King.

We opted to stay in this area because (1) who doesn't love The Lion King?! (2) there isn't a pool there, so we didn't have to worry about noise ever, and (3) it was very close to the main building where the restaurant, arcade, gift shop, and bus stop are located.

The papers I used are from the CTMH paper pack (retired) Sarita. "Brave" is from Tim Holtz Ideology. The sun is made from two sun punches glued down so the yellow rays show through between the orange rays. The title is from a Sizzix alphabet die cut set.

Pictures from "the elephant boneyard." Two more suns added and "remember this," which is from Tim Holtz.

Radiator Springs

at Disney's Art of Animation Resort

Sometimes a layout doesn't need extra embellishments, and that's what happened here:

This two-page layout is from yet another area of Disney's Art of Animation Resort: Radiator Springs from the movie Cars. 

All of the paper on this layout come from a large paper stack by Sandy Lion. I couldn't find a title to this paper pad except "Disney." It has 150 sheets (3 sheets of each design. I think there were 5-6 different papers that were Cars themed.

"Cars" and "Radiator Springs" were cut out with a lower-case Sizzix alphabet. I matched the color of the letters and shadows to the words in the billboard in the upper lefthand photo of the first page.

Finn & Shae loved seeing all the Cars characters and taking pictures with them. They could name them all. I cannot name one.

Disney World's Art of Animation

Family Suite Layout in the Lion King Area

Not gonna lie: Disney costs a lot of money. We stayed in a value resort and were perfectly happy. We've stayed in more expensive Disney properties before, but we think for little kids the over-the-top cartoon themes at the value resorts is not only fine, but maybe preferable. We specifically chose the Art of Animation Resort because it offers a family suite, which the other value resorts do not (or did not at the time anyway).

Here's the layout I created showing our suite. It was all Lion King/jungle themed. The papers are from the retired CTMH pack "Sangria" that matched up color-wise perfectly. The picture above was taken with page protectors on, so there are some odd streaks and glares here and there.

The Mickeys are punches. I punched them out four times and layered them with dimensional adhesive so they stand out from the page a little. I'm not sure where I got the journaling block. I hand wrote the journaling. The title is made with my favorite lettering stamps CTMH "Posterboard Alphabet." This time I stamped right on B&T paper from the paper pack. Here's a comparison of when I used them recently on colored cardstock:

You can see how different the stamps look depending on what you stamp them on.

 

Page two looks a little different without its page protector. Specifically, because I attached two "Flip-Flap" pages to the page protector right in front of the bottom right photo. Here's the area with the protector:

The "before" picture shows Finn on the nice, neat couch when we first arrived to our suite. The pages underneath reveal the huge mess we created while we stayed and the couch pulled out into an unmade bed. Here are some pictures of the additional photos attached to the outside of the page protector:

Not only is this cute for "before and after" pictures, but it's an easy way to add extra photos to any layout. CTMH calls them "Flip-Flaps," but I'm sure they are available from other sources as well. They come in many sizes, and I just came across mine, so I'm going to try to use them more.

Pool Layout

Back to Disney World Layouts:

We were so busy we didn't swim too much on vacation, but the kids loved the Finding Nemo themed Big Blue Pool, at the Art of Animation Resort.

This is a simple layout with bright colors. It seems a little brighter in person too. I used two papers from the "Best of Heidi Swapp" paper pack (an awesome 180-pages of  paper that I will be using more of soon) and a piece of blue cs for the base.

"Pool" and "pools rule" both come from the Carta Bella "Summer Splash" collection. The clear "gems" near the word pool are Nuvo Crystal Gems. The frame is from my old CTMH stash, the rainbow sticker is from Amy Tangerine, and the heart, star, and circle stickers are enamel dots from Shimelle box of crayons. 

I received the Nuvo Crystal Gems, the Amy Tangerine stickers (a lot of them), and the Shimelle enamel dots as part of a monthly card kit from the Simon Says Card Kit. A shout out to this card kit. It is a monthly subscription, but if you don't pay in advance, you don't get anything, and you can see what the monthly kit is before you decide to order. I really like it, and I've received a lot of new products to try in the kits. There are a lot of monthly subscriptions out there, and I definitely give this one a thumbs up.

Happy 4th of July!

Using Papers Together That Weren't Sold as a Set

I'm always coming up with goals. I never stick with them, but I'm really good at creating them. My newest goal is to work on the grandkids' books. Another goal is to use up my stash of paper. This layout works toward both goals. I made this for pictures from a 4th of July parade in 2016 (only 4 years later!)

Try to ignore the carpet around the outer edge. I didn't realize how busy that made the pages look. I'm pretty short on cs that's a true red, so I took some white cs and stamped a pattern all around the edges for my base. 

The red hearts background paper (hearts aren't just for valentines) and the two different blue-themed papers are all from different CTMH paper packs. 

The second page has one of the blue papers for the background, again because I was very short on any kind of red paper. The red and blue stars are glittery felt pieces from my large stash of miscellaneous. The white stars (both sizes) are punched from white cs. I also added Nuvo Crystal Drops: Simply White and Silver Lining.

I can't believe my little Finn is 5 years old and ready to start kindergarten now. Also, looking at the parade photos I didn't use on the layout makes me appreciate all the events that have to be cancelled this year to keep us all healthy.

Baymax Layout

Super Easy Custom Layout

Finn wasn't into the characters at Disney World like Shae was, but before we left on the trip he said he definitely wanted to meet Baymax. (Apparently, Baymax is a Big Hero 6 character. This grandma hasn't seen the movie.)

I made this layout with black cs and a simple chevron paper in shades of grey.

I cut out the heart with a punch and made the letters with my Cricut. I'm not much of a Cricut user, and I'm not sure what cartridge these are from--possibly the one that came with the machine?

Like I've said a bunch of times, I'm trying to use my own handwriting more for journaling and am experimenting in different ways. 

Using a fine marker for some of the words, thick for some, and adding a pop of red to match the mat really turned out well, even if my handwriting wasn't the best. I just drew freehand the little hearts and Baymax "face."

I made the Baymax head in the bottom corner just by trial and error cutting out a piece of scrap paper and folding it in half to make it symmetrical. When I was happy with that, I used it as a pattern. The eyes (face?) is made from a straight strip of paper with punched circles on both end--same with the smaller versions on the page. I added the two pictures, another heart for a pop of red, and done! Very quick, very easy, but very dramatic.

Shae and Finn both chose Baymax plush dolls as a souvenir. Notice in the picture Shae making sure Baymax saw hers.  It was such a cute, unposed moment.

TriceraTop Spin

One-Page Disney World Layout

This very casual layout tries to capture this area, Dino Land, U.S.A., in Disney World's Animal Kingdom Theme Park. The area is more carnival-like than most of Disney. This ride is open air, much like you would see at any smaller amusement park. I used CTMH's  Lagoon cardstock and the B&T paper is from the CTMH "Chalk It Up" paper pack (long retired).

I pretty much made up the layout as I went, but I did copy the little off-center circle designs from a layout in Leisure Arts book, Fast Scrapbooking with 4x6 Photos (copyrighted in 2012!). The layout was called Johnny Rockets and was made by Kelly Purkey, so a shout out to her for the inspiration. Yes, I still have scrapbook BOOKS, and I still like to thumb through them and magazines for ideas. Even if they are old and out of date style-wise, they can usually offer some inspiration.  But, like most people, Pinterest has become my go-to place for ideas.

I used three different sized circle punches, a star punch, dimensional adhesive, and "silver moondust" Nuvo Glittler Drops to make mine. They add a little circular motion to this layout for a spinning ride. 

Fun fact: When I posted this layout, I realized I had spelled "TriceraTops" incorrectly, so I went back and changed the second "i" to an "a" in my journaling and glued a new "a" banner over the "i" banner. Good as new. Here's a before--Oops!

We're Here!

Disney World Art of Animation Lobby Layout

Another crooked picture! I've got to take more time with my photos. The background paper and letter stamps (We're Here!) are retired from CTMH. The Mickey & Minnie are cut outs from a miscellaneous Disney paper I bought at my local paper crafting store and are popped up with dimensional adhesive. I also added pale gold Nuvo Crystal Drops, because lately I can't not add Nuvo Drops.

And, a little plug for the Art of Animation resort. Although this is one of Disney World's "value" resorts, I highly recommend it. It has I think the biggest pool in Disney World, it has suites for families, and the theming is great. On top of that, it is or used to be a test kitchen for desserts, so some of the desserts are awesome and more like you would get at the more-expensive resorts. There is also a gondola stop next to the resort, which wasn't open yet when we were there, but has since opened. Once it's safe to vacation again, you might want to check it out!

It's a Mouse Thing

Another One-Page Layout with 5x7 Photo

I really like making one-page layouts. You can be very creative without worrying about a theme carrying forward on to the second page. Again, I used Echo Park's "Magical Adventures" paper pack.

This photo was taken our first day when we met Mickey & Minnie at the Magic Kingdom. Finn was a little too shy to be in the picture, but Shae enjoyed it, and Finn liked being able to see them--just not too close.

(I should mention that the background paper is not as crooked as it appears on the black background--it's just the way I cropped (poorly) the photo.)

The stars on this page and the little Mickey silhouettes are fabric stickers. The curvy strip across the top is a "Just the Edge" card stock strip from Bazzill.

It's a Small World Layout

Using Supplies That Are All at Least 10 Years Old!

This layout went SO fast, and was very economical. The background paper is so old I don't know where it came from. I've always had it. There's no brand that I can find, and it's that older, thin paper that I would probably never buy now. The six flowers are made with an older EK Success punch, that was one of the first punches I ever bought. The centers are a 1/2 inch circle punch. "small world" was stamped with old CTMH inks and the discontinued alphabet "chocolate." I had to modify the "D" because it was too big for my paper, and all the Ls had the same problem, so they're actually just the top part of an exclamation point. There's always a workaround. I outlined the flowers and highlighted the letters with a thin purple marker to match the background paper. (The marker is probably more like 2-3 years old, so I guess I cheated a little.)

If I was starting over, I'd probably cut an inch off both sides of the background paper and mat it with a purple cardstock, but I'm not starting over. I think it turned out just as good as some of my more time-consuming pages, and it matches the It's a Small World right very well.

(Again, my cropping made the picture a little less than square, and it's much more even in person.)

Happiest Place on Earth

Disney Studios One-Page Layout

Walt Disney World IS the "happiest place on earth," and I wanted a one-page layout with our family photo taken by the Disney cast member photographer. Some pages, especially a good picture you want to print larger (this is 5x7) than most of the pictures in your layouts. I'm positive I lifted the basic layout for this page from somewhere, but now I can't find it anywhere. I assume it was from a Pinterest post. (Edit: YES, it was a Pinterest post, but I can't find the original artist's name. To see the post I copied, go HERE.)

The papers I used are all Echo Park's "Magic Adventure" series. I made the tags myself, The Mickey silhouettes are punches, and "happiest" was cut on my Cricut. I used my vintage typewriter to add "place on earth" in the little rectangle.

This zoomed-in photo shows that I used faux stitching around the edge of the white paper to make it look like it's sewn to the black base cs. To do this technique, just poke little holes with a piercing tool where you want your "seam," and then connect every other hole to the hole next to it with a fine-point marker. The indentations really make it look stitched.

Epcot Magic

Back to Scrapping Disney World

EPCOT was the favorite theme park of our almost-five-year-old grandson. It shouldn't be a surprise to us, because he loves robots and science and especially enjoyed all the interactive things to do there. Although the nighttime pictures are a little blurry, the dancing fountains were a huge hit.

The layout is very simple but conveys the magical time Finn had at EPCOT with just his parents while we enjoyed our own evening with Shae.

All the papers are discontinued CTMH.  I'm really attempting to put a dent in my huge paper stash (so I can buy more guilt-free, of course). I used a circle cutter to cut out the circle that mimics EPCOT's iconic Spaceship Earth. I found paper that matched the colors in my photo perfectly, but any geometric pattern would work. I cut out "EPCOT" with my Cricut, and added the large gems and triangle embellishments. The tiny silver dots between the gems and the letters are Nuvo drops.

Same elements on this page, but twith a different Cricut font and an old CTMH flourish of sparkles.
